Dear friend and partner,

This week, I want to introduce the third of the little four animals that attained greatness in life. Our focus today is on the Spider. The Bible says the Spider ends up in kings’ palaces through what she grabs with her hands. The Spider therefore, represents a set of people who attain greatness and find themselves in great places through the work of their hands.

I believe very strongly that everyone of us has the potential to be great and go places if we will give attention to details on the work of our hands (See: Prov 22:29; Prov 18:16). A Spider finds herself dining with Kings and rulers because she excel in the work of her hands . I have noticed that many people do not see a great future in what they do because it looks small and insignificant today, hence, they are slack on their job/business. Slack hands inhibit greatness and will lead to poverty (See: Prov 10:4). Even though, as a believer, you carry the blessings and greatness within you, the channel to the release of your greatness in the natural is what you do with your hands (See: Psalms 1:1-3).

There are  many examples of people in the Bible who end up in great places because of their skillfulness in what they do. One of them was Joseph, he rose to become the prime minister in Egypt because of his exceptional ability to interpret dreams (See Gen 41). How about David? He was a multi-talented man of God, combining diverse skills such as singing, playing musical instruments, business administration, etc. In view of his skills, people recommended him to play Harp for King Saul when Saul was tormented by an evil spirit (See: 1 Samuel 16:14-23). Another example is in Genesis 47:5-7, when Pharaoh asked any of Joseph’s brother with exceptional skill in cattle rearing to be in charge of his own cattle. Friend, your skills, talents, and giftings are your connection to great places in life. The moment people around you can recognize your skills and depend on you to get the job done, you will automatically attain greatness.

Let me then share with you 10 practical tips I have learnt that I believe will help you become the best at whatever you do in life:

1. Do what you love to do :

This is the first and crucial decision you have to make. Do what God reveal to you in your spirit as your calling. Your work should be what you love and enjoy doing. It may be what aligns with your natural talent, or skills you acquired through formal education. Doing what you love to do give you a lot of excitement, energy, and ideas to do what you do better.

2. Commit yourself to Excellence:

Determine to be the best at what you. The Spirit in you is the spirit of excellence (See: Prov 31:29; Daniel 1:20). Target to be in the top 10% in your field/business. Great people are recognized as being extremely competent at what they do (Ecc 10:10, WEB).

3. Develop a Workaholic Mentality:

Successful people have a reputation for being among the hardest working people in their field. They arrive early and leave late. Lazy hands lead to poverty (See: Prov 12:24; Prov 10:4; Prov 12:27; Prov 13:4; Prov 21:5; Prov 22:29). Let people know you as the hardest working person in your company. Work all the time you work. When you are at work, don’t waste time (See: Prov 20:13).

4. Dedicate yourself to Life-long Learning:

Your mind is like a muscle, it develops with use. Your ability to solve problem quickly and faster results from exercising your mind. Read books about your field or business daily. Find out current trends. The slogan “readers are leaders” is true. Get magazine, books, tapes, CDs. Attend relevant conferences, seminars, workshops, and trainings. These would accelerate your learning curve.

5. Learn the details of your business:

The market only pays you in correspondence to your performance on the job. Excellent reward are for excellent performers and average reward for average performers. Note that individuals who can integrate and use the greatest amount of information in any field soon rise to the top of that field. A small attention to details, new idea or insight can be the turning point in your life.

6.  Dedicate yourself to serving others:

Your reward in life will be in direct proportion to your service to other people. You must know who you or your business are sent to serve. Ask yourself:  Who are my customers? What do they really want? What do they really need? What do they consider as value? What can I do to provide such value to my customer? How can I improve my service to them?

7. Live a life of Honesty and Integrity:

Be honest in everything you do, and in every transaction you make. A part of your greatness is your name (See: Genesis 12:2). In most cases, what people buy is you and not really your product. A good name is better that all the wealth in the world (See: Prov 22:1; Ecc 7:1)

8. Focus Your Skill:

A major temptation with multi-talented people is to diversify too fast. Focus on an aspect of your skill or business first and be sure it is running well before you diversify to other areas. Don’t be “Jack of all trade, master of none”.

9. Develop a reputation for Speed and Dependability:

We are in the jet age, people want services delivered to them fast. Develop a sense of urgency and move fast with opportunities. People who have a reputation for moving quickly attract more opportunities and possibilities to themselves.

10. Get around the Right People:

85% of your success in life will be determined by the quality of the relationship you have in your personal and business life. Like a Chameleon, you take on the attitudes, behaviours, values, and beliefs of the people with whom you associate with most of the time. Associate with people of faith who have goals and are living out their  dream. Network with the right people for business opportunities. When you meet a new person, find out about his work and seek opportunity to send him a client or customer.
