Wisdom of the Conies!

Monday, August 9th, 2010

“The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks (Prov 30:26)”
“The high hills are a refuge for the wild goats; and the rocks for the conies (Psalms 104:18)”

Dear friend and partner,

Last week, I share with you three things we can learn from the ants: (i) accept personal responsibility for your life; (ii) manage your god-given resources  wisely; and (iii) never give up until you  reach your goal.

Today, I want to discuss with you the wisdom of the Conies. Conies are small rabbits that are physically feeble (i.e. they are weak or lack strength). But the Bible says, they are great because they position themselves in the rock. Conies’ life demonstrate how weak and ordinary folks can achieve great and extraordinary feats in life. Do you have great dreams but have been looking at your physical weaknesses as limitations? Conies gave you and I wisdom on how to turn every of our weaknesses into strength.

While the Bridegroom Tarried!

A waiting lady

“While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept (Matthew 25:5)”

There are two main force that are essential for any Christian to obtain the promises of God in life. The first is the force of Faith. Faith is your confidence that God is able to do what He said in His word. It is the spiritual currency that brings to “physical” reality every “spiritual” promises of God in the scripture. Without faith, it is neither possible to please God nor to receive anything from Him (Heb 11:1-6). The second is Patience. Patience is a balancing force for your faith. It is what comes into operation when faced with a delay in the realisation of what God has promised. While faith says, “I want it now”, patience says, “I will wait for it until it comes”.

Eat, the journey ahead is too great!

Monday, December 15th, 2008

“And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.
And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God. (1 Kings 19:8,9)”

In our last discussion, we mentioned how we can receive strength to reach the mountain-top of our destiny in life. We said one way is by waiting on the Lord. We tried to then answer the question: what does it mean to “wait on the Lord”? We said it means to “relax”, to “rest”, to not be agitated by any situation and circumstances that we face. We particularly, said a believer must learn to balance the inner life with the outer life. That is, we must pursue God’s purpose for our life by running the race of life but at the same time maintaining a resting (waiting) position on the inside such that whenever we face any challenges of life, we would remain unmoved.

This week, we would be looking at another way to get strength – this is by “eating”. For today’s discussion, I think it’s best to look at the life of Elijah the prophet in 1 Kings 19. One thing about the “heroes of faith” in the scripture is that the Bible allows us to have a glimpse of their private life so that we know they are “a man of like passions”.

What it means to Wait on the Lord!

Monday, December 8th, 2008

“But they that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint (Isaiah 40:31)”

As we gradually round off on “Strength for the Mountain Top” – a theme we’ve been considering for several weeks, I would like us to look at specific ways in which we can get strength in order not to never be weary or tired again in any of life endeavours. Today, I want us to understand what Isaiah referred to as “waiting on the Lord”.  What exactly does it mean to “wait on the Lord”?

The besetting sin!

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

“Wherefore, seeing we are also compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us, let us run with patience the race that is set before us (Heb 12:1) ”

There is a very subtle connection between “sin” and “weight”. While, every sin is a weight, not every weight is actually a sin. Paul message to us today is that we should watch out for the sin that easily beset.

Lay the weight aside!

Monday, November 24th, 2008

“Wherefore, seeing we are also compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us, let us run with patience the race that is set before us (Heb 12:1) “

This week and possibly next week, I would want us to look at things that cause people to faint and be weary. Our interest is on those things that slow us down as we march on in the race of life. I would use Hebrew 12:1 to drive home the points. The first was what Apostle Paul referred to as “weight”.

I can’t give up now!

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not (Galatians 6:9).”

Life, we know, is governed by times and seasons. Infact, everything in the Kingdom of God responds to the kingdom law of “seedtime and harvest”. In Genesis 8:22, God said While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest…shall not cease. So, when you sow a seed (good or bad), there is a season coming for your harvest. It is whatsoever you sow that you will reap (Gal 6:7).

What it means to faint and be weary?

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

“Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall (Isaiah 40:30)”

Throughout the scriptures, “youths” and “young men” are often used to connote “strength”. Although, not in reference to “youth” in age but as a spiritual reference to those who are young in the Lord. This is the stage a believer grows into after the childhood phase. These groups of people are often recognized by their zeal and enthusiasm for the work of the Kingdom. They are always on fire for the Lord. In I John 2:14, Apostle John wrote: “I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong”. However, our main verse for today sounds an alarm: “even the youth shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall.”

An invitation to come down!

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

“That Sanballat and Geshem sent unto me, saying, Come, let us meet together in some one of the villages in the plain of Oho.But they thought to do me mischief.
And I sent a messenger unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you? (Nehemiah 6:2-3)”

In the first part of this article, “An invitation to the top”, I mentioned that when we are at the verge of decisions in life there are often two invitations – one call us to come up, and the other call us to come down. We equally learnt that the first invitation call us to the top of the “mountain” where we have to depend solely on God for provision while the other call us to the “plain” where there are temporary pleasure. Accepting the invitation to the top would cost you energy and hardwork, while to accept the invitation to come down would cost you your destiny.

The Eagle Believer!

Monday, October 27th, 2008

“As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings: So the Lord alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him. He made Him to ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock (Deut 32:11-13)”

The Contemporary English Version of Deut 32:11 reads, “The LORD was like an eagle teaching its young to fly, always ready to swoop down and catch them on its back”. Today, I want us to look at how God trains and leads us to succeed in life.
